Connect Replay meetings to Claude, Cursor and other MCP agents

Connect Replay’s local meeting library to Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor using its read-only MCP server. Setup commands, tools and privacy details.

Let your assistant read your local meeting library

Replay includes a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Compatible assistants can list recordings, search transcript passages, read meeting notes and retrieve transcripts. The server runs on your Mac over standard input and output; it is not a public web endpoint.

Use it to answer questions across past meetings, find a decision with a timestamp, or collect action items from a call. Install Replay in Applications first and create transcripts for the meetings you want to search. The Replay window does not need to be open for the MCP server to run.

Connect Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal to register Replay with Claude Code. If you installed Replay somewhere else, replace the executable path with its actual location.

claude mcp add --scope user replay -- "/Applications/Replay.app/Contents/MacOS/Replay" --mcp

Connect Claude Desktop, Cursor or another client

Add this server to your assistant’s MCP configuration. For Claude Desktop, its configuration file is ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json. Other clients have their own MCP settings; keep the same command and arguments. Restart or reconnect the client after saving.

The tools an agent can use

Start with list_recordings or search_recordings, then pass the returned recording ID to get_recording or get_transcript. Recording IDs are paths relative to the local library. The tools read files under ~/Movies/Replay Recordings/ and do not edit or delete them.

ToolWhat it reads
list_recordingsRecording IDs, titles, dates, durations and folders; filter by folder, since or until.
search_recordingsMatching transcript passages with timestamps and speakers. Meaning-based search is available for English.
get_recordingMeeting details, speaker names, your notes, summary, decisions, action items and chapters.
get_transcriptTimestamped transcript text, optionally limited to a from–to range in seconds.

Questions to try

An assistant can only answer from meetings that exist in your local library and the transcript or notes it can read. Check its references and the recording when the answer matters.

  • What did we decide about pricing in last week’s meetings? Include the meeting and timestamp.
  • List the action items from my latest client call.
  • Find the moment we discussed the launch date, then show the surrounding transcript.

Local access does not make a cloud assistant offline

The MCP connection is local and read-only, but the content an assistant reads goes into that assistant’s context. A cloud-hosted model can receive those transcript passages and notes. Choose your assistant and its data settings with that in mind.

Replay does not expose your library through a public HTTP API. Website crawlers can read Replay’s product documentation, not your local meetings. Only videos you explicitly share through Share Link are uploaded for public playback.
